Listed below are some automated referencing tools for you to explore. These link to relevant information about the tool held on our NMIT Library Website.

Please note, if you are new to referencing or not confident referencing, we strongly advise first completing the Topics sections of this course before looking at tools. 

• Automated referencing tools are not 100% reliable. To use them successfully, you need to have knowledge and experience of referencing so you can identify inaccuracies and amend them. Once you are confident referencing, you may find automated tools useful. Always use them in conjunction with a guide.

  If you are a higher level student, familiar with referencing and required to complete more substantial research, we recommend using Zotero, an advanced citation tool that allows you to collect, organise, cite, and share research.

  Tools:

  • Word Referencing Tool - Available freely as part of Microsoft Word. 
  • Zotero - Advanced referencing tool, recommended for post-grad level students or those involved in substantial research.
  • Other automated tools: Citefast & RefMe - Information about other types of free referencing tools, and what to be aware of.

  Cite tools within Research Databases Page

  Most research databases include a 'Cite' function. This is where the full reference for a source is provided for you, and you can copy and paste this into your assignment.
