      Smoking Gun Treasure Hunt  

      Put your thinking caps and running shoes on!   In this challenge you must solve clues to uncover the mysterious SMOKING GUN CLUE, to direct you in the various tasks, to finish the hunt of NMIT and Nelson CBD. 

      Meet Tuesday 9:00 am in A214 for the start of the smoking gun treasure hunt

      We have new software and skills we expect new and old students to be up to date with before your first class.  This mandatory session is to ensure we all have the correct software and are familiar with NMIT-IT’s new communications channels.

      Make sure your first class goes smoothly, and you’re not the only student in the class without access and knowledge of how we run our classes this year.

      Help and guidance offered. Get you and your team checked off.

      Checklist: Install the basics under your the hood for each team member AND REGISTER THEM (Visual Studio: Serial number via Microsoft Imagine, or you will be locked out after 30 days).  Certificate Students are exempt from this activity as BYOD does not apply to them.

      1. BYOD - Connection to NMIT wireless

      2. Get logged into Moodle & access the section “Challenge Week”!!!

      3. Try accessing your courses' Moodle sites.  Some tutors may or may not have switched them life yet smile

      4. Find instructions to source required Microsoft software on the Microsoft Imagine portal (hint: check your NMIT email) or try this direct link.

      5. Install Office365 - IT Services Instructions

      6. Set up email forwarding or Outlook desktop
      7. Install Visual Studio

      8. Install Visual Paradigm

      9. Install SQL-Server (DATXXX and YYY students only), details
        the express version should be OK (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/sql-server/sql-server-downloads) , as long as you can get Server Server Management Studio too, https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/ssms/download-sql-server-management-studio-ssms

      10. Install MySQL (DAT602 students only)

      13. Backups in place (OneDrive or Google Docs working)

      All new level 4 and 5 students need to attend the literacy and numeracy testing sessions on Thursday 10.30 - 12.00pm in A309. Good news for those who have a few newbies in their teams – extra points for you!

    • Library Challenge **

      Do you even know where the library is? No - you can't just google it!

      Find out all about the resources available to you by attending an orientation session.

      Due to the popularity of these sessions we have to limit this to first year students and any other students who are enrolling for the first time.

      Attend one of the library orientation sessions on Thursday 1 March at 1pm or 2pm.  There is a maximum of 20 students who can attend each session so make sure you sign up to one of them using the meeting schedule below.

      Bring your Student ID card and computer and meet in the library at the main desk.

      Make a tv advert for your detective agency (less than 2 mins).

      There is a fabulous online resource available for all NMIT students to use this year.

      Explore what Lynda.com has to offer you and earn 10 points each for your team.

      Work through the Learning with Lynda.com course and upload a copy of your certificate of completion to the Lynda.com Challenge dropbox below before 5pm on Thursday to  earn your points.

      Note: If you completed this task previously - find and email your certificate and earn 10 points this year as well!!
