Learning activities

Introduce the topic giving clear links back to the learning objectives and a summary of the learning activities in this section. The activities could be online, off-line, in class etc.

A sample is given below from a soils management course.

This is our first topic and will run over 2 weeks of course time to enable us to ease into a steady working pattern. Make sure you have read the "Getting started" info and introduced yourself in the student forum.

The questions around soil formation are a little less contentious than the "which came first - the chicken or the egg?" poser. By the time we finish this topic you will be able to describe and explain the process of soil formation.
  1. Read the study guide and complete the suggested learning activities - in particular I encourage you to ask questions and participate in the discussions within the student forum.
  2. Do some wider research - spend some time looking the web sites and other materials listed under resources in this topic.
  3. When you feel ready, go to Assessment forum 1 - soil formation and complete the assessment activity.
  4. Start making some compost! This task will run throughout the course and you should be posting a message on your progress at least once a week in the Assessment forum 5 - making compost.
  5. Remember to start observing the landscape to see what you can learn about soil formation.
