Zoom 1 (log into the app)

Sign in online using your NMIT email https://zoom.us/signin if you cannot sign in you may need to create a log in. 

Go to https://zoom.us/download and use the Zoom Client for Meetings download button to start your download.

Click the ZoomInstaller.exe in your downloads bar and the installer will begin running. 

Follow the prompts and finish your installation. The program should open automatically. If not, click the magnifying glass in the bottom left of your screen to search for Zoom. 

Sign in using your NMIT account (firstname.lastname@nmit.ac.nz) and the password you have set online. 

Note: Your Zoom password will not change when you update your regular NMIT login. 


Zoom 2 (schedule a meeting)

  1. Open your Zoom client and sign in to Zoom.
  2. Click on the Schedule icon.

    This will open the scheduler window.
  3. Click the recurring meeting checkbox if you are setting up a classroom link. 

You do not need to set a time if you are making a recurring meeting - once you choose a recurring meeting, those options disappear (as below).  


Zoom 3 (join a meeting)

  1. In the Zoom client, click Meetings This is in the top navigation bar. 
  2. Under the Upcoming tab, select the meeting you want to start; additional options will appear and click start


Zoom 4 (NMIT standard settings)

Deselect the meeting passcode and turn off the waiting room (optional). 

Turn off video for hosts and participants. 

In Advanced Options allow participants to join anytime and add in paul.devine@nmit.ac.nz as an alternative host. This means that if you have any trouble, Paul will be able to help you. 



Zoom 5 (options for breakout rooms)

  • After creating the breakout rooms, click Options(on Windows) or the gear icon (on macOS) to view additional breakout rooms options.
  • Check any options that you would like to use for your breakout rooms.
    • Allow participants to choose roomParticipants can select and enter rooms on their own once rooms are launched. 
    • Allow participants to return to the main session at any time: If this option is checked, the participants can move back to the main session from their meeting controls. If this is disabled, they need to wait for the host or co-host to end the breakout rooms.
    • Automatically move all assigned participants into breakout rooms: Checking this option will move all participants into the breakout rooms automatically. If this option is unchecked, the participants will need to click Join to be added to the breakout room.
    • Auto close breakout rooms after () minutes: If this option is checked, the breakout rooms will automatically end after the configured time.
      • Notify me when the time is up: If this option is checked, the host and co-hosts will be notified when the breakout room time is up.
    • Set Countdown timer: If this option is checked, the participants will be given a countdown of how much time they have left before being returned to the main room.
  • Follow the steps below to assign participants to rooms or click Open All Rooms to start the breakout rooms.
