Quiz 1 (create)

To create a Moodle quiz the basic steps are:

  1. Add a new activity or resource to the page you want the quiz
  2. Choose Quiz as the activity to add.
  3. Name the quiz and work through the quiz settings.
  4. Add questions to your quiz.

  • If you are new to Moodle quizzes, watch the video below [5:39] and/or contact LiiT for support.
  • Start with a multiple choice (MC) quiz, as they are the simplest to build.

Quiz 2 (add a new question)

To add a new question to a quiz:

In edit mode, click on the TEXT as though to open and begin the quiz. (do not click on the pencil, as this is just a prompt to rename the quiz)


Then click 'Edit quiz':


Or if you quiz has questions already, click on the cog menu and select Edit Quiz


Click 'Add' and select 'a new question':


Select the question type you would like to add. 

Follow the directions for building the question type (see Moodle's question type guide).

Quiz 3 (editing questions)

  • Click into the quiz and in the right-hand cog and click edit quiz:

  • In here click the question you wish to edit (also here you can preview individual questions with the wee magnifying glass on the right-hand side:

  • Change the questions as needed, then
  • Scroll down to the bottom and click ‘save changes’
  • Note: the preview will show the saved quiz question, not any unsaved changes.


  • Quiz questions can also be edited from the question bank.
