Section outline

  • Workshop 1: Thursday 29 Feb  and Friday 1st March

Kia ora, Nau mai Haere Mai, Talitali fiefia and Welcome to this first workshop!

The workshop is about getting to know each other, setting-up a learning culture for the group, introducing & defining supervision, and learning about the many support services available to you at NMIT (including where to get good coffee & find peaceful areas to make the most of your time away from the hustle & bustle of your 'outside' world!)

If you have had time, you will have already come into NMIT and been set up with an NMIT Identity Card, if not, we will take you to enrolments before morning tea break on your first day on campus to get this done. This card will enable you to access classrooms, the library and other resources on site. There will be an introductory session on resources e.g. computers, textbooks, e-books and data-bases in the first workshop, as well as a session on writing and critical thinking at Level 8.

The intention, besides providing you with a welcoming & stimulating two days, is to set you up for Assignment 1 which is due before workshop 2.

You will find the course text and some of the readings for this course in the 'Readings' tab. You might find these helpful during your writing of assignment 1. You will need to search out other articles and textbooks that support the discipline you are focusing on e.g. social work, counselling, nursing, education, the business sector or other.

At Level 8, it is expected that you are an independent learner and will search for articles about the supervision you intend to offer. However, we are here to help and assist where possible. We suggest that you provide a minimum of 15 references for each assignment and most of these need to be academic.

We look forward to working with you all!

    Nga mihi
