This short course is an introduction to te reo me ōna tikanga Māori for use within your workplace, homes and out in the community.

By the end of the course you will be able to do these three things:

  1. Prepare and deliver a pakū mihi according to set instructions
  2. Learn and perform a waiata, demonstrating understanding of appropriate associated tikanga according to Te Tauihu o te waka a Maui Iwi
  3. Learn and perform a karakia, demonstrating understanding of appropriate associated tikanga according to Te Tauihu o te waka a Maui Iwi

This website is a place for you to get a refresher on what you have learnt in class and to provide some extra paths you may want to journey on.

This short online course is about increasing your understanding and awareness of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and The Treaty of Waitangi within the regional context of Te Tauihu o te waka a Māui (Top of the South Island of New Zealand). Giving you more confidence in engaging with Te Tauihu Iwi in your workplace.

By the end of the course you will be able to do these three things:

  1. Discuss the key principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and The Treaty of Waitangi and how they relate to Te Tauihu
  2. Explain early Aotearoa/New Zealand history inclusive of both Māori and non-Māori viewpoints
  3. Identify the iwi of Te Tauihu o te waka a Māui.
