 Update: Turnitin AI writing detection
Update: Please be aware that Turnitin AI detection tools are constantly being tested and developed. Turnitin’s current system does not just look for original AI-generated text, but now flags content that was generated by AI and then altered by paraphrasing or “humanising” AI tools, such as word spinners or rewriters.
Note: Some online writing assistance applications e.g. WordTune, Quillbot, and Grammarly now offer AI-powered paraphrasing tools within their toolsets. Paraphrased, translated, or lengthened/shortened text produced by these tools is generated by AI. This text can be detected by the Turnitin AI checker and should not be used in assessments unless the use of AI generated text has been specifically permitted.
Applications which offer spelling or grammar corrections or suggestions only e.g. Microsoft Word editor or Grammarly with Generative AI deactivated*, are not using AI, and can be used with confidence.
Work submitted by Te Pūkenga NMIT ākonga must support the principles of academic integrity. For guidance, please refer to the NMIT Generative AI Guidelines for Ākonga.
For technical help please contact the Learning Innovation and Insights Team. If you have any concerns, please discuss them with your tutor or NMIT support teams.

* To deactivate Generative AI in Grammarly follow the instructions here.
