Learning activities
Introduce the topic giving clear links back to the learning objectives and a summary of the learning activities in this section. The activities could be online, off-line, in class etc.A sample is given below from a soils management course.
This is our first topic and will run over 2 weeks of course time to enable us to ease into a steady working pattern. Make sure you have read the "Getting started" info and introduced yourself in the student forum.
The questions around soil formation are a little less contentious than the "which came first - the chicken or the egg?" poser. By the time we finish this topic you will be able to describe and explain the process of soil formation.
- Read the study guide and complete the suggested learning activities - in particular I encourage you to ask questions and participate in the discussions within the student forum.
- Do some wider research - spend some time looking the web sites and other materials listed under resources in this topic.
- When you feel ready, go to Assessment forum 1 - soil formation and complete the assessment activity.
- Start making some compost! This task will run throughout the course and you should be posting a message on your progress at least once a week in the Assessment forum 5 - making compost.
- Remember to start observing the landscape to see what you can learn about soil formation.
