Pages and Topics: Moving and Changing Levels

These instructions are for Multitopic course formats. If you are unable to follow them, it may because your course is in a different format. Get in touch with your LIIT core support member to change to the new format. 

1. Moving activities and resources 

When editing is turned on, you can move activities by clicking the move icon . If you wish to move the resource within the page you are on, you can click and drag the resource to where you would like it. 

If you want to move it to another section or topic, you need to click the icon. It will being up a list similar to this: 

Select from the list which comes up where within your course you wish to move it to. 

2. Moving a topic

The drop down sections within a page are called topics. 

You can move them within the page by dragging and dropping them, and to other pages by clicking the move icon (same as above). 

3. Moving a page 

You can easily move tabs left or right along by clicking 'edit' and selecting which direction to move.

When you raise the page level, you are promoting it to a first level page (Usually Course information, topics and assessments are the only three first level pages). 

Moodle courses can be divided into sections to organize resources and activities for students. Each section can have a description and can contain many activities and resources as the teacher desires. It is these sections we use to create the pages and topics at the different levels.

The tab menu system at the top of Moodle courses is created using the page level.

• First level pages (multitopic) and Normal, as a first level tab (onetopic) make up the top level of the menu (yellow highlight).
• Second-level pages (multitopic) and Child of previous tab (onetopic) make up the bottom level of the menu (green highlight).

• In multitopic there is a third level within a page called a topic. You can add more of these to a page if needed by adding a topic.

To change the level of a section

• Changing the level of a section is done the same way in both one topic and multitopic, and across all page levels.
• Edit the section settings using the edit menu on the right.

• This brings up the page settings, 
• Change the level to the setting to put the section in the correct place. 
• First level pages (multitopic) and Normal, as a first level tab (onetopic) make up the top level of the menu (yellow highlight in top image).
• Second-level pages (multitopic) and Child of previous tab (onetopic) make up the bottom level of the menu (green highlight in top image).
• In multitopic there is a third level within a page called a topic (blue highlight in top image).
• Remember, if you set a first/normal to a second/child they will dissapear from the top row and only show when the previous page is shown.
• Likewise with making a page a topic, it drops into the bottom of the previous page.
