Moodle announcements and forums are not the most dynamic tools for student engagement. Use this discussion to talk about other options, like Discourse, Campuswire, Slack, Microsoft Teams

  1. Social interaction
One thing on my mind is about nurturing the classroom community when away.  I'm thinking about what virtual spaces students can meet in or currently do meet in.  In some topics there may be multiplayer games (free or really cheap) that could work n this space. I'm thinking about Minecraft, Sims, Second Life. NMIT has been an international leader in using online virtual worlds for years, lets use that knowledge.
  2. Facebook Groups
Be careful when using Facebook Groups.
    • In this small town, it could be a bit suffocating having students want to be your "friend"
    • its also very hard to control when things get out of hand.
    • No way of recording data
    • Some people are ideologically opposed to using it. (Braver folks then me)

  3. Microsoft Teams
Todd is having success using Teams. He has a Team set up for each Class. Video works well. And all (students and staff) get their login direct from their existing NMIT accounts.

  4. Re: Microsoft Teams

LinkedIn Learning has a excellent course in using Teams - Microsoft Teams Essential which gives an excellent explanation of the different bits of functionality,  It is about 2 hours long but you can watch it in short bursts.
