Assessment

Assessment

I love that this is included in the assessment strategies:

5. Assessment for learning is placed at the centre of subject and programme design.

6. Assessment for learning is a focus for staff and institutional development.

I have observed that tutors can be really creative with assessments once they feel empowered by the huge range of potentially assessable projects/ activities.  Some tutors obviously feel really liberated by the fact that a learning outcome can be assessed in a myriad of ways and that in fact that assessment task can make up a good portion of applied course work- hence the pertinence of point 5 above!  Can't wait to see how point six will be actioned.

Thank you Rebecca for your positive comments. We are certainly trying to get away from the mind-set of having to assess ("tick off") individual learning outcomes. A well designed assessment should ensure several learning outcomes are able to be met.

Our Assessment policy and Assessment Guide for tutors were re / developed to reinforce this.
