Pedagogy behind Moodle
Moodle is an effective tool that supports blended learning which is a growing trend in education, because it empowers students to be more engaged and to drive their own individual learning experience. The range and calibre of today’s learner is changing drastically and Education needs to be able to cater for a range of learning styles and needs. When used effectively Moodle can provide that, and act as an extension of the face-to-face component of learning by allowing students to engage in interactive self-paced and /or collaborative learning. Collaboration in Moodle offers a multitude of real life world skills that translate to life and work place skills making them work force ready. This is achieved in Moodle through:
- Instant communication and on spot problem –solving
- In-built discussion forums which allow student-student and student-tutor interactions
- In-depth private one-to-one conversations which is great for confidentiality.
- Has the capability to subscribe to blogs, forums, wikis and other collaborative resources and all built into one course.
- Making sure students never miss anything because it has reminders imbedded in it.
- Has activities embedded that increase learner autonomy and ownership of learning
- Instant formative and /or diagnostic feedback
Above all Moodle the interactivity within Moodle further enhances students’ engagement by supporting their learning activities in flexible time and space.
