• E-tivity 1.4 Managing our Conservation Heritage – Repairing the Tapestry

    • Purpose: Although DOC manages roughly 30% of our landscape, there is approximately 5 million ha of native cover not under DOC protection. Most of this will have some sort of actual or incidental protection. The purpose of this activity is to get a better understanding of who is managing our conservation heritage.

      Task:

      1. Work through Module 3 of the DOC online Introduction to Natural Heritage.

      2. Find out more about a local (non-DOC) organisation that manages conservation in your area. This can be through:

      • Internet search
      • Informal Interview
      • Telephone call to organisation

      3. Post the following to the Managing our Conservation forum (250 word max):

      • A summary of what you have found
      • How / If they work with DOC
      • What conservation management principles and techniqes they use

      4. Review at least one other participant's posting and provide feedback or a further link

      5. Add your summary or critique and further reflections to your draft portfolio (e-tivity 1.6).  (max 500 words)
