• E-tivity 1.3 - Unique New Zealand Activity

    • Purpose:  Many of New Zealand’s plants and animals are endemic (found nowhere else in the world).  This puts us in a unique position globally.  As David Attenborough said in ‘Life of Birds’, “New Zealand is a window into the world that might have been if mammals had never evolved.”  This activity looks at our unique native plants and animals.

    • Task:

      1.  Work through Module 2 of the DOC online Introduction to Natural Heritage. 

       2.  Use the internet to research a unique aspect of New Zealand flora or fauna.

       3.  Read at least two articles/website pages on your topic

       4.  Post the following to the Unique New Zealand forum (250 word max):

      • A summary of what you have found. 
        • The summary must include how this aspect contributes to New Zealand's biodiveristy being globally unique.
      • The websites where you found them

       5.  Look at one or more other members’ posting and provide feedback or a further link

       6.  Write a reflective entry in your draft portfolio for e-tivity 1.6, linking ideas of why NZ biodiversity is unique. This can include your summary.  (max 500 words)
