In this module students will develop competency in screening and assessment to support the use of effective treatment(s) and interventions(s) for working with addiction and co-existing problems service users. Students will critically evaluate treatment and intervention approaches appropriate to the whānau/client group with whom they are working.
This course introduces students to the profession of counselling in the bicultural context of Aotearoa New Zealand. Students will learn about themselves in relation to their personal worldviews and be able to understand the shaping influences on their identity. Students will be introduced to selected theories, drawn from both Māori and western worldviews, to support the interweaving of theory, relationships and skills within a beginning professional practice.
